 Divi Carina Bay Casino Celebration

On Tuesday, March 14, 2000 the Virgin Islands’ dignitaries and guest attended a grand ribbon cutting ceremony to open its first casino at the Divi Carina Bay Casino in St. Croix Virgin Islands.  Many government officials, guest, owners and managers of the casino attended the black tie affair that started at 4:00 p.m.  Speeches were made and the ribbon was cut.  The Ceremonial Dice Roll by Senator Adelbert M. Bryan, Lieutenant Governor James and Governor Turnbull followed.  Entertainment was provided by the Mocko Jumbies, Masqueraders, Quadrille Dancers, Herb Williams and Gilbralter, Carnival Dancers and music by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights.

Friday, March 17, 2000 was the opening for the general public.  By 6:30 p.m. the casino was in full swing.  Champagne, horsdoeuvres  and cake added to the celebration.  In addition, music for dancing was by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights.  The slot machines were tinkering, with periodic screams of winners, while the table games were in full swing.  Around 8:00 p.m.  an official from the casino made welcoming remarks and then as a symbolic gesture they lit one torch to another to symbolize the growth of the casino and the Virgin Islands economy.  The expectations, for that night, were that Divi’s 700-person capacity would be reached and their would be a waiting line -  this prediction was  realized before the evening was over.  By 10:00 p.m.  Divi was full and lines began to form outside.  Reports about the first day were that Divi did not close its’ doors until 6:00 a. m.

To accommodate your visit  the elegant Divi Carina Bay Resort is adjacent to the casino and available for guest.
