University of the Virgin Islands Celebrates Golden Jubilee
St. Croix US Virgin Islands Reception
The University of the Virgin Islands celebrated 50 years with Golden Jubilee receptions held on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John Virgin Islands. On Friday, January 27, 2012 UVI celebrated its Golden Jubilee on St. Croix at University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall at the Albert A Sheen Campus. The Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands and President David Hall invited all alumni to attend. It was a grand affair. The theme was Honoring Our Past – Creating Our Future.
During the reception refreshments and hors d’oeuvres were served. The program featured remarks from the Board, President Hall, Past CVI/UVI Presidents, Legislature and Governor’s Office. Eddie Russell Quelbe Jazz Band kept the attendees entertained. The reception was also the beginning of UVI fund raising efforts.
As a three-time Graduate of University of the Virgin Islands, formerly College of the Virgin Islands I was very happy to attend the reception on St. Croix. I met other alumni not seen for a long time and former UVI Students that I had taught when I was a UVI professor. It was like a family reunion. I wish the University of the Virgin Islands 50 more years of wonderful achievements.
